Once we have completed our design this does not mean that our involvement ceases. In fact, we are always very keen to remain involved in all our projects, at least until our client gains beneficial use of his premises. We feel this provides an important additional level of quality control over the finished product. During construction we typically:
- Review contractors’ drawings and document submittals for compliance with contract requirements;
- Monitor the quality of materials and workmanship. This is typically undertaken on a visiting basis, unless agreed otherwise;
- Comment on Health and Safety issues;
- Participate in site meetings;
- Attend commissioning of engineering systems;
- Inspect the Works on completion and record any defects;
- Review corrective works, As-Built drawings and Operation and Maintenance manuals.
On our Russian projects where we have been appointed to undertake the working design, we also undertake the Russian statutory role of formal "Author’s Supervision", as the two activities are linked.
We typically do not undertake site monitoring activities on projects we have not designed at least up to the concept design stage.
